Nangeli's resistance against the Mulakkaram (Breast Tax: to cover their chest with a cloth) of Travancore king, imposed on avarna (Sections of people in the Hindu religion who do not belong to the four major Varnas: "Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra"). A women 'Nangeli' of erstwhile Travancore (Mulachi parambu, Cherthala town in Alappuzha district), hacked off her breast and presented in plantain leaf infront of the village officer send by the king, She died the same day due to bleeding.
